Resolution 25-R-045 - Authorizing expenditures with Way Mechanical to replace two rooftop air conditioning/heating units at the Schertz YMCA (B.James/D.Hardin/C.Lonsberry)

BACKGROUND

The City needs to replace two rooftop Air Conditioning/Heating units at the YMCA Recreation Center. Both units are the original units, 15 years old, and are at the end of their “life expectancy” and should be replaced instead of having major repairs done to them. Way Mechanical was selected as an on-call vendor for the City of Schertz for HVAC service and replacements per resolution 24-R-147 in November of 2024. The total cost to replace the two rooftop units is $57,574.83. There is a lead time of six to eight weeks on the equipment, staff will push Way Mechanical to schedule the replacement as soon as possible with the hotter summer months approaching.

GOAL

To obtain authorization from City Council to enter into a contract with Way Mechanical to replace two old and inoperable rooftop Air Conditioning/Heating units at the YMCA Recreation Center.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT

The YMCA Recreation Center currently has two non-functional rooftop units that require replacement. Without these replacements, the remaining equipment at the center will be insufficient to maintain a comfortable temperature within the building. The repair and replacement of these units would ensure a comfortable environment for all members, allowing the community to continue enjoying essential recreational services year-round. This is consistent with the City's Strategic Plan goal of supporging strategic investment in City infrastructure.

SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDED ACTION

City staff recommends approval of the contract with Way Mechanical to replace the two HVAC units at the YMCA Recreation Center.

FISCAL IMPACT

The $57,574.83 is available and approved through the FY 24-25 base budget for Facilities Services.
