Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on a Proclamation naming the month of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Background
With breast cancer being diagnosed in 1 out of 8 women in their lifetimes, it is likely that everyone knows someone impacted. With early diagnosis, though, the 5-year survival rate has increased to 99%. Williamson County is ranked the third-healthiest county out of the 244 ranked according to the "County Health Rankings 2022" report. The report is compiled by County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR&R), a program of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, and draws attention to why there are differences in health within and across communities. Williamson County remains one of the healthiest counties in Texas. Programs supported by the County, such as the Breast Cancer Identification and Treatment Project, have helped Williamson County citizens with access to cancer screenings and to remain one of the healthiest counties in the State of Texas.
