Resolution - Public Health Services: Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Contract No. HHS001120300005, under the Sexually Transmitted Disease/Human Immunodeficiency Virus Disease Intervention Specialists (STD/HIV-DIS) Contract, and any associated documents, by and between the City of Lubbock and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), to provide funding for public health followup services by the City of Lubbock Health Department.
Item Summary
This contract provides funding from the HIV-STD Program of the Texas DSHS. The new contract with the DSHS will provide financial assistance to strengthen public health followup activities for those recently diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease, including treatment, linkage to care, partner notification, and focused screening to at-risk populations. The grant will enable staff to reach individuals outside of the traditional clinical setting.
As a new funding stream for the Health Department, this grant will fund the salary and benefits of 2 disease intervention specialists, 1 epidemiologist, and 1 administrative assistant. Three of these positions were approved in the FY 2021-22 Budget, contingent on this funding. The grant will also reimburse the department for testing supplies, educational materials, travel, and training opportunities.
Fiscal Impact
The initial contract for the first project period is $261,979.With all possible renewals exercised, the total amount of the contract is projected to be $1,309,895.
