Resolution No. 5535 authorizing the Mayor to execute an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Town of Guadalupe for firefighter training.
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council approve Resolution No. 5535, authorizing the Mayor to execute an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Guadalupe allowing the Chandler Fire Department to provide firefighting and emergency medical training to the Guadalupe Fire Department.
Background/Discussion:
The Town of Guadalupe Fire Department (GFD) is an automatic aid partner with the City of Chandler. Under the automatic aid process, Chandler Fire Department (CFD) responds into the Town of Guadalupe for emergency calls. Staff has experienced that training together provides a safer, more efficient response. Members of GFD travel to Chandler's Public Safety Training Center to participate in firefighter training with members of the CFD. This request establishes the agreement for one year with an automatic renewal clause for an additional ten (10) one-year terms. CFD also has training agreements with the Gila River Indian Community, the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, and the City of Maricopa Fire Department.
Financial Implications:
The Town of Guadalupe Fire Department will pay four hundred dollars annually ($400.00) per sworn firefighter for the training provided. GFD is invoiced for the total amount and the payment is made within the fiscal year. The estimated payment for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 is $4,800 for the training of twelve (12) firefighters. The funds received will be used to purchase consumables which offset firefighter training program costs conducted at the Chandler Public Safety Training Center.
