Resolution - Right-of-Way: Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Contract 15991, with Randy Lewis, to farm approximately 4.82 acres out of Section 1259, J. H. Gibson Survey, Garza County, Texas.
Item Summary
This farm lease agreement allows Randy Lewis to farm approximately 4.82 acres of dry-land farm on the City-owned property out of Section 1259, J. H. Gibson Survey, Garza County, Texas. The property was purchased in 2008 for a proposed future Lake Alan Henry raw water pump station site, just south of Southland, Texas, identified as the future Southland Booster Pump Station Site. The City of Lubbock Water Utilities Department does not anticipate needing the land for the next 3 years.
Consideration for this lease shall be the Lessee's obligation to farm and cultivate the property during the lease, which shall expire on December 31, 2023, unless terminated earlier than anticipated as stipulated in the lease. The City will benefit from having the land in agricultural use, which minimizes soil erosion and the growth of weeds, as well as elimination of City of Lubbock maintenance. In addition to these benefits, productive use of the land helps control the prairie dog population and illegal dumping of trash.
Fiscal Impact
