The city held its General Election on November 5, 2024, for the purpose of electing one councilmember. The election was held in conjunction with the countywide election on a consolidated ballot. Arizona Revised Statute ยง16-642 requires the governing body canvass the returns of the election not later than twenty days following the election. The attached canvass shows the final official results. Voter turnout was 83.04% with 137,977 voters casting ballots out of a total voter population of 166,164. City Council candidates Christine Ellis and Joseph Yang were nominated for the office of councilmember at the July 30, 2024 Primary Election pursuant to Chandler City Charter Article VII, Section 7.01(e) - Nomination for Regular Election which states:
If at a primary election there be any office or offices to which no candidate therefor was elected, then said election shall be considered to be a primary election for the nomination of candidates for such office or offices and a second or regular election shall be held to vote for a candidate to fill such office or offices. The candidates not elected at such first election equal in number to twice the number to be elected to any given office, or less if so there be, and who received the highest number of votes for the respective offices at such first election, shall be the only candidates at such second election...
City Council candidate Christine Ellis was declared elected to the office of councilmember at the 2024 General Election. She received the highest number of votes cast and shall be issued a certificate of election.
