Certificate of Appreciation to Galveston County Health District (GCHD)
BACKGROUND (Brief Summary)
From Cheryl Lowen, Library Director
The Galveston County Health District (GCHD) has been an essential partner in our health literacy initiative at the library for the past three years. Their contribution has been remarkable, as they have led various community programs such as diabetes seminars, free health screenings and vaccinations, and health fairs at our library and across the City and County. The public health nurses have been welcoming and knowledgeable, and our patrons have spoken highly of all the events GCHD has facilitated. Our association with the GCHD has enabled us to establish connections with other non-profit organizations in the community, giving us access to more resources and information for our patrons. We met BACODA representatives and Wellby Financial representatives who facilitated financial literacy programs at the library during the GCHD networking meetings. The GCHD is an indispensable part of our resource network, and we appreciate their hard work. Brittany Rivers, Director of Community Engagement and Strategic Partnership for GCHD, has been instrumental in scheduling programs and was named as a Galveston County 40 under 40 by the Galveston Daily News in 2023. She has worked tirelessly with the Galveston County Health Equity Advisory Council to create the GalCo Community Health Needs Assessment, which assesses the current needs and health literacy of our GalCo community.
