PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
United Way of Yellowstone County has awarded the City of Billings a grant for Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) in the amount of $5,280. The goals of the EUDL grant are to enforce underage drinking through patrol, alcohol retail sale trainings, reverse stings and compliance checks. The grant will fund overtime for the officers involved in these details. The Department will have until December 31, 2012 to expend the grant funds.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Accept the EUDL grant of $5,280; or
- Not accept the EUDL grant of $5,280, which would result in eliminating extra duty for the patrol, alcohol retail sale trainings, reverse stings and compliance checks.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact to the City as there is no City match required for this grant.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends City Council approve and accept the United Way grant for Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) in the amount of $5,280.
