Staff recommends the City Council approves the purchase of a 2022 deice truck from I-State Truck Center, in the amount of $145,531.00, including the trade amount of $12,300.00 and 5-Year warranty in the amount of $2,831.00.

The purchase of the 2022 deice truck will replace an existing deice truck and is included in the FY22 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP).  The deice truck is used during the winter to spread chloride on the roads to help melt the snow and ice.  The truck is also used as a water truck during the summer.  The existing deice truck will be traded in.  The 2022 deice truck was advertised on October 29th and November 5th, 2021, in the Yellowstone County News and on the City's website.  Bids were opened on November 16th and two bids were received.  I-State Truck Center submitted the lowest, responsible bid.

City Council may:

• Approve purchasing the deice truck; or,
• Not approve the purchase.  The existing unit is nearing the end of its useful life, if not approved, a complete rebuild of the bed, tank, pump, and spraying system will be required.  Repair costs will likely increase and reliability will decrease.  This truck is one of three in the fleet and is critical for winter operations.

The 2022 Deice Truck was budgeted in FY22 using Street Maintenance District funds.  The budget is sufficient to purchase the deice truck.
