PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

The Rose Park Pool Improvements project contract was approved by Council at the January 28th meeting for $270,000 to replace the existing water slides at the Rose Park Pool Facility.  Additive Alternate #1 provides for the construction and installation of an additional 31 foot speed slide.  The cost for Additive Alternate #1 is $87,650.  This cost will be covered with $60,000 from park District #1 cost savings and $27,650 from Council Contingency to be paid back over the next 2 years through revenue generated from slide admissions.  See Resolution Attachment A.  Change Order #1 is a directive to the contractor  to construct Additive Alternate #1.  See Attachment B.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

The Council May:
  • Approve Rose Park Pool Improvements Change Order #1 for $87,650; or,
  • Not approve Change Order #1 and provide guidance to staff.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Funding for Change Order #1 will come from:
  • $60,000 from Park District #1 cost savings
  • $27,650 from Council Contingency Fund to be repaid in 2 years through revenue generated from admissions to the slide facility.  

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends Council approve Change Order #1 for $87,650 to fund the Additive Alternate #1 to construct a 31 foot high speed slide.
