PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Billings Public Library received an equipment donation from 3D Systems Corporation through their MakerLab Club for two Cube 2 3D printers to be used for teen and youth programming in the Library. Programs that utilize these printers will be in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM). 3D Systems designed their MakerLab Club in collaboration with the American Library Association and the Association of Science and Technology Centers for the purpose of improving young people's access to 21st century tools like 3D Design, 3D Scanning and 3D Printing. By accepting the 3D printers, Billings Public Library commits to participating in the MakerLab Club with other libraries across the country in an effort to advance 3D digital literacy and establish access to 3D printing and design opportunities. Library staff will have access to workshop curricula and content provided by 3D Systems Corporation. Each of the two Cube 2 3D printers is valued at $1,005.25, for a total donation value of $2,010.50. Council policy requires that it approve all donations over $500.
