Adopt Resolution 13-20 to partner with the Commemorative Partner Program with the Arizona Department of Veterans Services that will recognize, thank and honor our Vietnam Veterans and their families.
Background:
The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the United States Secretary of Defense to conduct a program to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Vietnam War and provided “the Secretary shall coordinate, support and facilitate other programs and activities of the federal government, state and local governments. And other persons and organizations in commemoration of the Vietnam War”. The Commemorative Partner Program is designed for federal, state and local communities, veterans’ organizations and other nongovernmental organizations to assist a grateful nation in thanking and honoring our Vietnam veterans and their families. Commemorative Partners are encouraged to participate in the commemoration of the Vietnam War by planning and conducting events and activities that will recognize the service, valor and sacrifice of Vietnam veterans and their families. Commemorative Partners will endeavor to plan and carry out at least two events each year during the commemorative period of 2014-2017 hat will recognize thank and honor our Vietnam veterans and their families.
