Agenda Item Text:

Approve Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 13-34-SHF-03 for the Cochise County Sheriff's Office Firing Range Project, to incorporate the addition of the Utility Range (Add Alternate No. 4) as specified in the base bid.

Background:

The Cochise County Procurement Department issued an invitation for bids relating to construction of the Cochise County Sheriff's Office Firing Range in Bisbee, Arizona, in April 2013.  Upon closing of the bidding process on May 9, 2013, , Canyon Building and Design was sucessfully selected as the contractors to perform the project.  The project is being funded by a private donor.  The bid consisted of a basic bid (rifle/firing range) and four add alternates (range house, transport of over excavated material off-site, transport of other related materials to Kings pit, and utility range, respectively.) to be incorporated into the  project based on availability of funding.  Due to value engineering, it has been determined that add alternate no. 4 (utility range) can be added to the project scope of work within the existing program budget.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Proceed with the addition of add alternate no. 4 (utility range) and seek additional funding for addition of add alternate No. 1 range house).  Due to value engineering, add alternate no. 2 and 3, respectively, were not required resulting in substantial cost savings to the overall project.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office will not have availability of this vital training component to their overall weapons and tactical senario training program.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Please return one copy of the signed amendment to the Facilities Management Department upon execution.
