Approve amendment/modification No. 0004 to Bureau of Land Management contract L08PX00131 extending the period of performance to July 22, 2011 and increasing funding by $20,000 to pay overtime for deputies conducting law enforcement on lands under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management.
Background:
For several years the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has contracted with the Sheriff's Office for deputies to patrol and engage in law enforcement activities on BLM lands. The existing contract provides overtime funding for those enforcement activities to occur. This modification of the contract simply extends the contract to July 22, 2011 and increases the amount of funding for overtime from $50,000 to $70,000, thus increasing available funding by $20,000. All other terms and conditions of the existing contract reamin the same. This modification has been reviewed and approved as to form by Ms. Terry Bannon, Deputy County Attorney.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Upon completion and the return of both original copies, the Sheriffs' Office will forward the agreement to BLM for completion on their end.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved the period of the contract will not be extended and the additional overtime funding will not be provided. This will create a lack of enforcement by the Sheriff's Office on BLM lands until or unless such time that a new contract can be put into place.
