Agenda Item Text:
Approve the Community Punishment Program Grant for Fiscal Year 2014/2015 in the amount of $43,973 effective July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
Background:
The Administrative Office of the Courts has been awarding Community Punishment Program funding to the Adult Probation Department for more than 20 years. The grant funds 77% of a probation technician position which is responsible for locating absconders (probationers who have stopped reported and have active warrants for their arrests).
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved, we will continue to fund the Absconder Probation Technician position.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If this grant is not approved, our department will not be able to fund an important position that has allowed many absconders to be located, thus keeping our communities safe.
