Approve the Intensive Probation Supervision Grant for the Adult Probation Department for Fiscal Year 2014/2015 in the amount of $732,279 effective July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
Background:
Intensive Probation Supervision (IPS) provides a stricter level of supervision for high risk offenders. Probationers on IPS are basically under house arrest, and it is an alternative to prison. The IPS grant currently funds four, two-person teams, which supervise approximately 77 probationers throughout Cochise County. It also funs 6.08 non-case carrying positions which support the IPS function.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved, the grant will continue to fund necessary positions that ensure high-risk offenders are receiving appropriate services in order to be rehabilitated and integrated into society.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Without IPS funded, high-risk offenders will have no other alternative but to be sentenced to prison.
