Agenda Item Text:
Approve the Drug Treatment and Education Fund Grant for the Adult Probation Department for Fiscal Year 2014/2015 in the amount of $94,216 effective July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
Background:
The Drug Treatment and Education Fund provides treatment funding, outpatient and residential, for probationers who have a substance abuse problem and desire to seek and maintain sobriety. The grant also funds a portion of the LEARN Center (GED lab) coordinator, who is employed by Juvenile Probation.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved, the funds will be used to provide treatment services for probationers. The funds will also be used to pay a portion of the LEARN Center Coordinator's salary.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Without this funding, probationers will be forced to pay for their own treatment services, and the majority of probationers can not afford such services.
