Agenda Item Text:
Authorize negotiations to join the Eastern Arizona Counties Organization (ECO) for the purpose of participating in federal land and wildlife issues common to eastern Arizona counties.
Background:
The eastern counties in Arizona have common interests and need an organization where they can act as one regarding specific causes that impact these counties, especially regarding federal lands and wildlife issues. To that end, five counties—Greenlee, Graham, Apache, Navajo and Gila—have formed the Eastern Arizona Counties Organization (ECO). Supervisor Searle is recommending that Cochise County join ECO. To formally join, the IGA and by-laws that established ECO will need to be amended to include Cochise. Supervisor Searle would like the authorization of the Board to work with the five counties to make that happen, and would then bring back an IGA for formal approval. ECO members have asked Cochise County to join.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Supervisor Searle will contact the ECO counties about including Cochise County as a member of ECO.
