Approve a Proclamation declaring the month of June to be “Thanksgiving in June” for County employees to collect non-perishable food items to be donated to the Emergency Food & Shelter Local Recipient Organizations (food pantries and shelters).
Background:
There is a great need throughout Cochise County for the donation of food items for distribution to families in need, during the current economic downturn and food banks are receiving less funding that previously. County employees have organized and conceived a "Thanksgiving in June" event to collect non-perishable food items to be donated to the Emergency Food & Shelter Local Recipient Organizations (food pantries and shelters).
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The committee will move forward with plans for a food drive during the month of June.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Food pantries and shelters will not receive additional food supplies.
