Agenda Item Text:
Approve an expansion of Cochise County’s existing relationship with the National Association of Counties by adding health/vision and dental components to the current NACo Prescription Discount Program, effective June 9, 2015.
Background:
Since 2008, Cochise County has participated in NACo’s Prescription Discount Program whereby county residents can obtain substantial discounts on prescriptions at participating pharmacies (eighteen in Cochise County). There is no cost to residents to participate in the pharmacy discount program. Since the program began, county residents have saved over $300,000 from the retail price on nearly 26,000 prescriptions for an average discount of nearly 23%. NACo has since added low-cost discount plans for certain health/vision and dental services (the “Live Healthy” Program). In Cochise County there are fifty participating dental providers and over 100 health/vision providers. For the health/vision discounts, savings can range from 20 percent to 70 percent on a variety of related services. Residents can save 5 percent to 50 percent on dental care and 20 percent for orthodontics. Residents may choose to purchase either or both of the dental or health plans. On-line sign up may be accomplished at www.nacohealth.org or by calling 877.573.2395 (toll-free). There are no costs to the county for participating in Live Healthy -- the programs are provided to counties as a NACo membership benefit. For residents, the prescription discount card remains free. For the health/vision discount program, the fees are $6.95 a month or $69 a year for individuals; for families, the fee is $8.95 a month or $79 a year. For the dental program, the fees are $6.95 a month or $69 a year for individuals, and $8.95 a month or $79 a year for families
