Agenda Item Text:

Approve the 2017-18 Odysseyware Pilot agreement for 50 licenses to be used in the Juvenile Detention Center and Small Schools Districts in Cochise County in the amount of $1,617.

Background:

There is a great need for a flexible learning solution in our county juvenile detention facility and our small school districts in the county.  As budgets become more lean, thinking beyond the means of traditional classroom instruction is necessary to continue to move our students forward.
We have an opportunity to bring this flexible learning to our juveniles detention facility and small school districts; it's called Odysseyware.  The features of the web-based instructional tools are that it is customizable to the students and supports many instructional settings.  Some of the features include:
blended learning, high stakes and standards-based assessments, CTE (Career and Technical Education), RTI (Response to Intervention), Project-Based Learning, Special Education, High School Equivalency-College and Career Readiness, Alternative Education, ELL (English Language Learners), credit recover, virtual laboratories, writing labs, academic services, core subjects area, and Gifted and Talented.

In order to receive the 50 pilot licenses, our Schools department will enter into an agreement with Odysseyware to purchase the In-House Professional Development and Training package in the amount of $1,617.00.  Our Schools department will host the training and invite the stakeholders to take part in the training (teachers, administrators, and school Board Members, and other interested parties).  The training will include how to navigate the system, set up students and coursework, and how to customize the coursework to the student.

As a result of the agreement, we will receive 50 licenses to split up between our juvenile detention facility, our home school students, and our small schools to use the entire suite for an entire year.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Our Schools department will host the training and invite the stakeholders to take part in the training (teachers, administrators, and school Board Members, and other interested parties).  The training will include how to navigate the system, set up students and coursework, and how to customize the coursework to the student.

As a result of the agreement, we will receive 50 licenses to split up between our juvenile detention facility, our home school students, and our small schools to use the entire suite for an entire year.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Our students will not have the ability to continue coursework because they are in the detention facility. Our students in the smaller school districts will not have the opportunity to take courses that Odysseyware offers to increase their academic load or enrich their current schedule.
