Agenda Item Text:

Authorize Juvenile Court Services to submit application to Governor's Office for Children Youth and Familes (GOCYF) for Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG) in the amount of $18,430 for contract year 2011-2012, and receive funding as awarded by GOCYF from JABG.

Background:

The JABG award and the required county matching funds cover the personnel expense for the pro-tem judges in the Juvenile Drug Court Program. The appropriate oversight of a collaborative body has been established through the long-standing G.R.A.P.E. committee which the county's governmental agencies and the private business sector has successfully maintained for the past 16 years. Initially the JABG funds are allocated to multiple entities located within Cochise County in much smaller amounts. The entities in turn submit the proper form to the GOCYF to waive their allocation and give it to Cochise County Juvenile Court Services. The $18,430 represents the direct award for Cochise County.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Submit the application to the GOCYF for approval.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

This is the only funding source available for the personnel expense for the pro-tem judges that preside over the Juvenile Drug Court Program. Not approving this application to GOCYF for JABG funding will significantly impact the ability to continue the program.
