Approve renewal of Child Care Health Consulting Contract #GRA-STATE-19-0968-01-Y2, between First Things First and Cochise Health & Social Services, in the amount of $88,920, effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
Background:
Since 2014 Cochise Health and Social Services has been able to provide Childcare health consultation to day care centers serving the birth to 5 population. 90% of a child’s brain development occurs before they enter Kindergarten. The consultation services provided through this grant primary focus on health and safety and have allowed us to provide targeted and individual education to centers to meet needs, as well as group-based education and training to maintain competencies in day care staff. With collaboration across health, the department has been able to target immunization information which has collectively contributed to achieving an overall rate of 96% across our county, achieving herd immunity numbers for all vaccine preventable diseases.
Consultation services focus on socio-emotional education, playground safety, healthy food and food safety, as well as communicable disease prevention, planning and education for community emergencies, oral health, literacy and safe play and early detection of visual and auditory disruptions.
