Agenda Item Text:
Approve fiscal year 2020 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF), Grant #2020-VD-BX-0733, awarded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for January 20, 2020 through January 31, 2022, in the amount of $51,812.
Background:
In March 30, 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) began seeking applications for the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program (CESF). Under the guidelines of the grant, Cochise County was eligible to receive $51,812.00 in funds to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus. The allowable purchases included, law enforcement and medical personal protective equipment (PPE) along with addressing the medical needs of inmates in local jails and detention centers. Other allowable expenditures could be used for overtime, training and travel expenses particularly related to the distribution of resources to impacted areas. The CESF grant does not require any matching funds for acceptance.
On behalf of Cochise County, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) submitted the CESF grant application to BJA. On May 19, 2020, Sheriff Mark Dannels received a letter from the BJA advising him the CESF grant for Cochise County had been approved with an award amount of $51,812.00. The funding period runs January 20, 2020 through January 31, 2022. Acceptance of this grant will allow CCSO to restock needed PPE for the expected coronavirus surge in the fall.
Chief Civil Deputy Christine Roberts has no issues or concerns with this grant.
