Adopt Resolution 11-59 designating polling places within Cochise County for the Presidential Preference Election to be held February 28, 2012.
Background:
A.R.S. 16-248(a)(b)(d) states that the Board of Supervisors shall approve the Voting Regions (polling places) for the Presidental Preference Election. That each Voting Region shall not exceed one polling place for every two thousand active registered voters. Elections staff have reviewed the voting regions with the political parties. Furthermore to assure that long waits are avoided at the polling places the number of regions has been increased from 18 in 2008 to 23 in 2012, additionally the number of Board Workers at the voting regions has been increased based on estimated turn out at the polls.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Elections Department will submit the approved Voting Regions to the Department of Justice for pre-clearance.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Cochise County will be out of compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes 16-248.
