Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Grant 2021-207-062 in the amount of $25,008.57, for two Intoxilyzer 9000 Instruments, one Kustom Signals Eagle 3 Dual Ka-Band radar, and one Kustom Signals ProLaser 4 Lidar unit, effective January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021, with the understanding grant administration will be transferred to the County Finance Department in fiscal year 2022.

Background:

This grant will allow the purchase of two Intoxilyzer 9000 instruments. In a previous grant approved by the board, the Sheriff's Office was able to purchase two Intoxilyzer 9000 instruments in an effort to replace the five Intoxilyzer 8000 instruments which are now considered old technology and are no longer the standard. The purchasing of these two additional Intoxilyzers will leave only one Intoxilyzer 8000 left to be replaced. The current standard in breath testing devices is the Intoxilyzer 9000. Also included in this grant is one radar and one lidar unit. These speed measuring devices will replace two of many units that are extremely tenured and in need of being replaced.

Two Intoxilyzer 9000 Instruments valued at $20,271.57.

One Kustom Signals Eagle 3 Dual Ka-Band radar valued at $2542.

One Kustom Signals ProLaser 4 lidar unit valued at $2195.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If this grant is approved, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office will order and put into service the two speed measuring devices, to include ordering and putting into service the two Intoxilyzer 9000 instruments.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If the approval is not granted, the Sheriff's Office will continue to operate with current resources.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

If approved, Board of Supervisor's Chair to sign grant copies (2) and return to Sgt. Tod Linendoll or the Sheriff's Office.
