Agenda Item Text:
Approve an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) renewal between the Fry Fire Department and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, effective July 27, 2021 and renewed annually for five years, for the use of certified paramedics to participate in the Sheriff's Office SWAT Tactical Emergency Medical (TEM's) program.
Background:
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office has used paramedics from the Fry Fire Department as SWAT TEM's medics for over 20 years. It is a national standard for SWAT to use TEM's medics during operations. The TEM's medics provide immediate medical assistance to our SWAT operator's, innocent civilians and suspects. Standard EMS services will not enter an area that had not been deemed safe. The IGA includes required monthly training and tactical operations. The County shall reimburse the Fry Fire District for the overtime or regular wages necessary to provide the paramedics.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Our SWAT team will be able to have our TEM's medics attend monthly training events and all operations.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Fry Fire Medic's participation will be significantly reduced resulting in additional risks to Sheriff's Office personnel, innocent civilians and suspects.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Respectfully request the BOS approve the IGA, sign and return to the Sheriff's Office (Lt. Sean Gijanto)
