Agenda Item Text:
Approve Amended Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Pinal County to provide Juvenile Detention Services, for a term of five years, with one additional five-year renewal term.
Background:
On September 15, 2020, the Board of Supervisors (Board) approved an IGA with Santa Cruz County to provide Cochise County with juvenile detention services, with 4 beds guaranteed. On October 13, 2020, the Board approved IGA with Pinal County to provide overflow/backup juvenile detention services. Santa Cruz County notified Cochise County that it will no longer be providing juvenile detention services and is terminating the current IGA. Therefore, Cochise County needed to find an alternative for providing these services.
In place of Santa Cruz County, Pinal County has agreed to provide primary juvenile detention services to Cochise County, with ten (10) beds guaranteed. The current charge for 2021 is $300 per juvenile per day. Then in 2022 the charge will increase to $347 per juvenile per day.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Notify County Administration, Juvenile and the Probation Departments of the change from Santa Cruz County to Pinal County.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Cochise County will be unable to provide juvenile detention services.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Have the Board Chair sign two originals of the IGA, then send it to Christine Roberts, who will e-mail it to her counterpart in Pinal County.
