Agenda Item Text:

Approve State Grant for Public Defender training funds, per ARS 12-117, in the amount of $2,500 for the Legal Advocate, effective July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.

Background:

In 1989 the Arizona Legislature enacted ARS 12-117 for the purpose of providing funds to the Supreme Court for distribution to county public defenders, and additional offices established for conflict of interest cases in accordance with ARS 11-581, to be used for training purposes.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Approvals respectfully requested.  Use funding in accordance with the agreement attached hereto.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If not approved, the Legal Advocate will depend solely on the county general fund for funding for mandatory continuing legal education credits for attorney staff.
