Agenda Item Text:
Adopt Resolution 12-03 designating polling locations for the Special Primary Election on April 17, 2012 and the Special General Election on June 12, 2012.
Background:
A.R.S. Section 16-411 states that the Board of Supervisors shall designate the polling locations for any Special, Primary or General Election. The Special Primary Election on April 17, 2012 and the Special General Election on June 12, 2012 to fill the seat of Gabrielle Giffords will include use of all 64 election precincts. Due to the expense and adequacy of facilities associated with the BI Bisbee and BI Iron Man polling locations a change is being made to move that polling location to the Old Bisbee High School. Concern relative to parking at the Old Bisbee High School is being addressed by having all staff park down the hill on Election Day and facilities roping off the parking spaces that will be specifically for voters. Proper notification regarding the change in polling locations will be mailed to each registered voter and noticed in the Bisbee Review as well as placing of signage at the previous locations.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Submit to the Department of Justice for preclearance of the change in polling locations.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Elections will not be in compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes 16-411 and will not be in compliance with obtaing preclearance on a change in polling locations.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Provide Elections Department with signed copy of resolution.
