Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve the County Attorney’s recommendation to purchase new crime scene reconstruction equipment and software used in criminal prosecutions.

Background:

The Sheriff’s Office and other agencies currently use an outdated scanner and software for the reconstruction of crime scenes.  Both the equipment and software have reached the end of their life cycle.  Leica Geosystems is used by both law enforcement and architects nationwide for state-of-the-art 3D imaging.  The procurement of this equipment and technology will significantly increase the effectiveness in prosecutions that involve crime scene reconstruction.

Fiscal Impact & Funding Sources: Funding of the scanner, software and training of staff would come from Border Strike Task Force funds and have no impact to the general fund.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Obtain approval from the Board and Certified copies of the Board Minutes.  We will then work with Procurement and I.T. to purchase the system.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

CCSO and other agencies will not have access to a system that provides both law enforcement and prosecutors the benefit of advanced crime scene reconstruction.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Notify Cochise County Attorney's office of decision. If approved, please provide certified minutes as soon as possible.
