Adopt Resolution 12-05 to approve Docket R-11-08, revisions to the County Planning and Zoning Commission Ordinance.
Background:
The Planning and Zoning Commission has been reviewing and revising both the County Planning Commission Ordinance, dated November 20, 1969. Chair Jim Lynch requested that both Staff and the Commissioners review a revised copy of the Ordinance for final discussion at the February 8, 2012 meeting. Deputy Civil County Attorney, Britt Hanson, has advised that from this discussion possible changes to this document be proposed and that the proposed changes be legally advertised before any voting occurs. Chair Lynch has provided a summary of the changes for the Ordinance, which is attached.
Following is a ‘red-lined’ version with proposed changes after Staff review. A ‘clean’ copy of the Ordinance then follows, incorporating all proposed changes.
The propsoed changes are open for public comment at the Board meeting on March 13, 2012.
Please note that on February 8, 2012, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to forward a recommendation of approval of the proposed changes to the Ordinance.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve the changes to the Planning Commission Ordinance.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The Planning Commission would have a revised Ordinance which more accurately reflects the current duties, functions and purpose of the planning and Zoning Commission.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The Commission would continue in its current role, but would not have an updated guiding document that more accurately articulates the Commission's current duties, functions and purpose.
