Agenda Item Text:

Approve Agreement M22-0063 between the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA), Cochise County, and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) in the amount of $6,000,000, effective October 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024, to purchase portable radios for Cochise County law enforcement and fire department first responders.

Background:

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office has built a state-of-the-art 700MHz public safety radio system in Cochise County for all public safety agencies.  Many of the local public safety agencies do not have the funding to purchase portable radios to use on the 700MHz system.  We requested $6,000,000.00 in funds to purchase tri-band portable radios from the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) for first responders in Cochise County.  Tri-bands portable radios can transmit and receive on VHF, UHF, and 700/800MHz frequencies.  DEMA has agreed to fund the purchase of these portable radios.  Authorizing AZDEMA Agreement M22-0063 will allow the Cochise County Sheriff's Office to move forward in the purchase of these radios.  These portable radios will provide interoperable radio communications to 7 law enforcement agencies and 20 fire departments in Cochise County.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If this agreement is authorized by the Board of Supervisors, please sign and return two copies of this agreement to Chief Tom Alinen at the Sheriff's Office.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

It would impact radio interoperability for local public safety first responders.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Please send two signed agreements to Chief Tom Alinen to be processed by Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs.
