Information
Agenda Item Text:
Approve Congressional Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Grant 15JCOPS-22-GG-01462-TECP awarded to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) in the amount of $246,000, effective March 15, 2022 through March 31, 2024, to purchase Search and Rescue radio equipment, TRACS integrated citation equipment, Panasonic Tablet, and miscellaneous cell phone equipment, including all associated taxes and fees.
Background:
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office would like to incorporate the use of the automated TRACS system for issuing citations and criminal complaints. This system is already being used within Cochise County by the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Sierra Vista Police Department. With this electronics and technology grant, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office will be able to issue citations and complaints from an electronic platform in a quicker period of time, allowing deputies to return to their patrol duties in a more timely manner. The grant will also allow for the purchase of approximately 30 Panasonic Mobile Data Computers. This will alleviate some of the burden from Cochise County IT Department from having to replace and or purchase new MDC's. Search and Rescue will also be a recipient of this grant as new radio equipment and or accessories for their existing radios may be purchased.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved the Cochise County Sheriff's Office would begin ordering all the necessary equipment for the TRACS Systems as well as all electronic items and accessories to outfit the patrol vehicles. CCSO would also place a purchase order for 30 MDC computers as well as all needed accesories.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved, this would continue to lengthen the time on stops and lessen the time our deputies are able to actively patrol our county. If not approved, it would also place the burden solely on Cochise County IT Department to purchase, upgrade and maintain MDC equipment which is aging and becoming outdated.
