Accept the Hazardous Materials Preparedness Grant Program Award 693JK2240018HMEP, administered by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), in the amount of $20,000 for Federal Fiscal Year 2022-2023, effective October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023.

Background:

Cochise County Emergency Management was awarded $20,000 for the Hazardous Materials Preparedness Grant Program (HMEP) for Federal Fiscal Year 2022-2023.  The grant was approved by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and is administered by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).  The grant will be used to fund first responders to attend HAZMAT conferences/training; plan exercises, and write a HAZMAT response plan. 

Cochise County Emergency Management facilitates this grant for the six municipal fire departments and fourteen fire districts. 

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Department will spend funds on approved training, exercises, and planning.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

County will be unable to fund HAZMAT training, exercises, and planning for the six municipal fire departments and fourteen fire districts.
