Agenda Item Text:

Adopt Resolution 23-21 accepting a grant award from the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) in the amount of $20,409 for the Fry Fire District for the purchase of Thermal Imaging Cameras.

Background:

The Fry Fire District, operating since 1965, is a special taxing district formed in Cochise County; and is in receipt of a grant award from the Gila River Indian Community in the amount of $20,409.

Funding for these grants is provided by a portion of Gila River Casino's annual revenues as a provision of Proposition 202 approved by Arizona voters in 2002, which created gaming compacts between the State of Arizona and Arizona Tribes and the intent of this funding is to support cities, towns and counties in providing government services that benefit the general public; and many Indian Nations contribute their portion of funding directly to the state for distribution; the Gila River Indian Community chooses a direct disbursement to local governments; the district is in need of supplemental funding to purchase Thermal Imaging Cameras, improving the ability of firefighters to locate fires or victims.

The County will receive funds on the behalf of the District. The County will disperse the funds to the District upon receipt from GRIC. The District will procure the equipment and comply with all additional grant requirements.
