Approve Amendment to Grant Agreement HT-22-2912 with the City of Tucson, Southwest Border Arizona Region High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Program, and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, for the Southern Arizona Major Investigative Team (SAMIT) in the amount of $18,750 to purchase surveillance equipment.
Background:
The Sheriff's Office requested additional funding to purchase surveillance and evidence collection equipment which is critical to officer safety and building prosecutable cases. The equipment was approved. Our award was increased a maximum of $18,750 to purchase the requested items.
The Sheriff's Office has a contract (recurring) for funding of personnel by the Southwest Border Arizona Region High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), Southern Arizona Major Investigative Team (SAMIT). This grant is a funding source the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has applied for, and has been approved to utilize as a source of funding for salaries, partial fringe benefits (ERE), and to purchase supplies for one deputy assigned to work in the HIDTA drug task force. This task force works under the guidance of a local Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Office. Their mission is to combat illegal drug use, sales, and smuggling occurring within the communities of Cochise County.

If approved, the Sheriff’s Office will purchase the requested equipment.

If not approved, the Sheriff's office will continue current operation, however we will have to accept higher risks or not conduct certain types of investigations.
