Agenda Item Text:

Approve the annual Work Plan for Cooperative Service Agreement 24-73-04-0228-RA between Cochise County and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and Wildlife Services, in the amount of $59,780.84, effective July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.

Background:

Every year, as part of the 2023-2028 Inter-governmental agreement between Cochise County and the USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Wildlife Services, Cochise County must approve an updated work plan.  The annual work plan sets specific goals, actions and costs of a Wildlife Specialist to be assigned to Cochise County to manage damage caused by wild and feral animals to livestock, agricultural commodities and public health. The Wildlife Specialist works with the Sheriff's Office Animal Control Officers. This agreement has been budgeted from the General Fund for several years.  The annual plan cost increased $9,930.84.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Continue with the services as provided to mitigate predators and health issues related to animals within the county.  This is not a service animal control officers can replace.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

County Animal Control Officers are not able to respond to wildlife animal calls.  If the agreement is not approved, it will result in a reduction in services and quality of life for the citizens of Cochise County.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Please return both signed agreements to the Sheriff's Office Attn. Lt. Sean Gijanto.
