Agenda Item Text:
Approve Community Enhancement Fund expenditures for District 3: Rex Allen Museum repairs to roof and wall, in the amount of $10,000.
Background:
Supervisor Judd submitted for approval: Note from John Shaver, Rex Allen Museum President... A very pressing issue and financial need at the Rex Allen Arizona Cowboy Museum and Willcox Cowboy Hall of Fame. Being a historic building, having a flat roof and being about 140 years old, we have developed water leaks. They've been patched several times, and inevitably developed more leaks over the years. Now it's gotten to be a really big problem. Whenever we have a rain, even a mild rain, there are at least 5 spots where the water leaks through the roof and we have to put buckets around, and move some of the exhibits to protect them from the moisture. Some of the ceiling material has started to flake away as well.We have a recomendation to replace the whole roof, including replacing the metal under the elastomeric coating, along with the damaged sheetrock and wood on the ceiling and sub-portions of the roof- the long-term solution to protect the structural integrity of the building. We also have a crack on the south side of the building that is getting larger. Thankfully, it isn't affecting the strength of the weight bearing wall thus far, but it will continue to get larger and more unsightly all the time. Preliminary estimates of $35,000. Please support or urgent need.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Payment made to City of Willcox for Rex Allen Museum.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Museum will continue to fund raise and hopefully be able to secure the roof by monsoon.
