Agenda Item Text:
Approve transfer of 2014 Chevy Equinox, vehicle #344, to the Tombstone Marshal's Office.
Background:
The Sheriff’s Office is requesting the 2014 GMC Equinox; VIN: XXXXX109023, County Vehicle #344, be removed from our Fleet and transferred to the Tombstone Marshal’s Office at the request of the HIDTA task force. Vehicles and equipment purchased with HIDTA funds are restricted to task force members and functions.
HIDTA Policy relevant section below:
"7.13 Vehicles
Vehicles leased or purchased with HIDTA funds shall be used only for official HIDTA-related business in accordance with parent agency regulations. For each HIDTA-funded vehicle, the agency or initiative using the vehicle must document its assignment in support of HIDTA initiative-related activities and provide a copy of the documentation to the Executive Director on an annual basis."
The Sheriff’s Office, through grant funding, provides one narcotics detective to the HIDTA Task Force. In 2012, the Sheriff’s Office asked the HIDTA task force to provide funds for an undercover vehicle for our task force detective to use while conducting task force functions.
HIDTA approved our request. On approx. 11/12/2013, we purchased a 2014 GMC Equinox; VIN: 1GNALAEKXEZ109023, for $24,118.21.
Recently, the Sheriff’s Office received $48,854.31 from the HIDTA task force to purchase a new vehicle to replace the 2014 GMC Equinox. On 1/19/24, the Board of Supervisors approved the funding. We purchased a new vehicle. HIDTA is asking us to transfer the 2014 Chevy Equinox to a HIDTA task force member, the Tombstone Marshal's Office.
