Agenda Item Text:
Approve the Highway Safety Grant Agreement 2025-PTS-014 from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), in the amount of $13,000, effective October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025.
Background:
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has provided funds over many years to assist with traffic-related enforcement and alcohol-related issues. These include targeted areas for DUI enforcement, Distracted Driver Enforcement, Aggressive Driver Enforcement, educational and prevention activities and community events designed to educate on impaired, distracted and aggressive driving. These are recurring funds. This contract has been approved as to form by the County Attorney's Office.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Continue to conduct educational and enforcement activities related to distracted / aggressive driving while utilizing speed-related equipment..
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Funding for this type of traffic enforcement and equipment would not be available due to lack of general fund overtime.
