Agenda Item Text:

Approve participation in the 2024 Southern Arizona Multi-Jurisdictional Training and Exercise Initiative.

Background:

The 2024 Southern Arizona Multi-Jurisdictional Training and Exercise Initiative is a quad-county initiative with Cochise, Pima, Santa Cruz, and Yuma Counties, which provides regional emergency management and public safety training and exercises.

The initiative is funded through the State Homeland Security Grant Program, which is managed by the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (ADEMA) in coordination with the Arizona Department of Homeland Security (ADOHS).  The grant agreement (sub-recipient number 240403-02) is between Pima County and ADOHS.  The total award for the Southern Regional (Cochise, Santa Cruz, Pima, Yuma) is $150,000, with $21,975 specifically allocated for Cochise County.

Funds can be used for a wide range of training, examples include: Incident Command System (ICS), All Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT), ISC Section Chief, Public Information, Technical Rescue, HAZMAT, and SWAT.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Emergency Management will participate in the initiative and schedule trainings/exercises.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Emergency Management will not participate in the regional training and exercise initiative, nor will we be able to schedule courses here in Cochise County.
