Adopt Resolution 12-74, cancelling the Cochise College Governing Board District 3 Election for one 4-year-term board seat up for election and appointing the one candidate (Jane Strain) who filed to run in the election to fill the open board position, and cancelling the Cochise College Governing Board District 5 Election for one 4-year-term board seat up for election and appointing the one candidate (Dennis Nelson) who filed to run in the election to fill the open board position, with all the powers and duties of that office as if elected to that office, effective the first day of January, 2013.
Background:
ARS 15-1442 states, “If only one person files or no person files a nominating petition or nomination paper for a write-in candidate for an election to fill a community college board office, the county school superintendent no earlier than seventy-five days before the election may cancel the election for the position and appoint the person who filed the nominating petition or nomination paper to fill the position.”
