Agenda Item Text:
Approve the renewal of contracts for Professional Services, Agreement No. 12-26-BOS-03 B-D for Transportation Services for the Pima County Medical Examiner Contract to Espinoza Funeral Home in Bisbee, Richardson’s Funeral Home in Benson and West Mortuary in Willcox for the period of July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014
Background:
On June 26, 2012 the Board of Supervisors approved the award of contracts to multiple funeral homes for the transportation of deceased bodies for the Pima County Medical Services Contract. The terms and conditions of the contract allow for the option to renew the contract for additional one-year periods. This will be the first one-year option renewal period. All firms except Richardson’s Funeral Home have agreed to renew the contract at the same pricing as the original contract. Richardson’s has requested an increase from $75.00 to $125.00 round trip which has been determined to be a reasonable by the Procurement and Health Departments. Since the contracts were initially approved, Espinoza’s Funeral home in Douglas closed. Espinoza is now supporting the Douglas area from the Bisbee location.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Issue FY 2013-14 blanket purchase orders. Monitor contract performance.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The County would have to pay the funeral homes whatever their non-contract rates are for these services or contract with a private transportation company or perform the services with in house staff.
