Agenda Item Text:
Approve the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between Cochise County and Pearce-Sunsites Fire District allowing the District to locate a repeater station at Cooper Peak, in exchange for several services from the District that will be made available to Cochise County law enforcement and emergency response personnel.
Background:
Chief Martinez from the Pearce-Sunsites Fire District wishes to locate a repeater site for his fire district at Cooper Peak near Dos Cabezas. This will allow him to remove his equipment from a tower owned by Verizon, and reduce or eliminate the associated expense. In addition, Chief Martinez has agreed to allow the County access to a variety of Pearce-Sunsites resources, to include support personnel and equipment, Bendix King Radios, and small bottle oxygen refills. The proposed equipment does not conflict with County interests or frequencies, and poses a negligible impact to the tower structure and the power consumption of the existing County site.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Communicate with Chief Martinez that he may proceed with his equipment installation.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Chief Martinez will have to renew his lease with American Tower for another year at an annual expense of $6,000, his coverage will be reduced from the Cooper Peak location, and no formal agreement for use of Pearce-Sunsites District equipment will exist.
