Information
Agenda Item Text:
Approve the Tohono O'odham Nation Grant for the Cochise County Office of Emergency Services in the amount of $5,320 for laptops.
Background:
Under Arizona Proposition 202, Arizona tribes agree to share 12% of their gaming revenue to benefit the general public in cities, towns, and counties within Arizona. The Tohono O'odham Nation has elected to directly distribute these funds through this grant process. Cochise County Office of Emergency Services (OES) successfully applied for $5320 in grant funds to purchase new computers, software, and associated equipment for the County's Mobile Communications Unit (MCU). The MCU supports first responder operations such as search & rescue missions and is staffed and maintained by the RACES volunteer communications group under OES. The current computers in the MCU are hand-me-downs from the Sheriff's office and run the now-obsolete Windows XP platform. No matching funds are required under this grant.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved, OES will submit copies of the required IGA to the Tohono O'odham Nation and await the grant distribution check. We will then work with County IT and Procurement to purchase the necessary hardware and software. The RACES team members will do the installation and setup of the equipment.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved:
1. we can continue using the current obsolete/unsupported equipment until it no longer functions
2. we can purchase replacement equipment using the County's general fund
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
OES needs three (3) original copies of the IGA returned, to be sent to the Tohono O'odham Nation as part of the grant requirements.
