Information

Agenda Item Text:

Approve the acceptance of a donation to the Sheriff's Office for a Lenco BearCat rescue vehicle that will be used for law enforcement and tactical operations.

Background:

A private foundation is donating funds to purchase a Lenco BearCat rescue vehicle for the Sheriff's Office. The private foundation will donate $300,654.82 to purchase the vehicle. Vehicle ID number 1FDAF5HT0EEB20336 is at the Lenco factory ready to be shipped. The BearCat will primarily be used by the Sheriff's Office SWAT team. The armored rescue vehicle is used to offer ballistic protection to law enforcement in dangerous situations. The vehicle is also used to provide protection to civilian's who are being rescued.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Vehicle will be shipped to Cochise County where a mobile radio will be installed by Fleet Services. The vehicle will enter the fleet and be assigned to the CCSO SWAT team.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If the donation is not accepted then the CCSO will not be able to acquire the Lenco BearCat. This will cause members of law enforcement and the public to be exposed when in dangerous and unstable situations.
