Agenda Item Text:

Approve rebuilding Old Divide Road as a two lane road, one lane road, emergency access road, or other type of configuration.

Background:

The Highways & Floodplain Division has been working on the engineering design to repair the washouts caused by heavy runoff and debris after a fire on the mountain, and permits from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) since parts of the road are on what is now BLM property. The design has been completed for some time and we now have the right-of-way confirmation and temporary construction easements from BLM.

Old Divide Road provides access over the Mule Pass Tunnel, is another route connecting the Banning Creek side of the tunnel to Old Bisbee. It also serves as an emergency route in and out of Old Bisbee in case the tunnel is out of commission due to an accident or other blockage of the tunnel.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Begin work on Old Divide Road.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Old Divide Road will be closed to public access.
