Agenda Item Text:
Approve an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Tucson and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office for a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) grant, No. HT-21-11-0513, for a term of January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012, providing $375,403.00 in salary, fringe benefit, and overtime funding for the Sheriff's Office personnel assigned to the Border Alliance Group (BAG).
Background:
This grant is a recurring event and is one of the major grants that provides funding for the Border Alliance Group (BAG) narcotics enforcement task force. This grant funds the salary, ERE and overtime of personnel assigned to BAG. There are no matching funds associated with this grant. Although the original agreement establishes a spending ceiling of $157,669.26,, also attached is a Grant Agreement Adjustment Notice, dated June 7, 2011, which removes the spending ceiling and re-sets the grant amount at $375,403.00.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Border Alliance Group operations will continue as planned, assuming that the grant is approved.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If the grant is not approved, those personnel whose salaries, etc., are paid by the grant will need to be paid by the County general fund, or another funding source will need to be located to fulfill that obligation.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
After completion please return both original copies of the agreement to the Sheriff's Office so that they can be forwarded to the City of Tucson.
