Approve agreement and addendum between Cochise County Office of the Legal Defenders and the Arizona Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) to authorize Cochise County to receive motor vehicle records form MVD via the Motor Vehicle Record Request System (MVRRS).
Background:
The Office of the Legal Defender represents indigent persons accused of myriad offenses in Cochise County. Effective representation includes verifying information obtained from the law enforcement, witnesses and others. Investigations also include locating witnesses. Access to this investigatory tool improves LDO investigative efficiency because LDO can directly access certain fields of MVD data free of cost rather than request that it be done by a third party, resulting in out of pocket costs for copying and mailing, as well as time.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Once approved, the executed access agreement is sent to MVD. LDO is then given access to limited fields of MVD data.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The impact of not approving would be the loss of an oppurtnity to reduce postage, gas, copying, man hours, as well as case processing time
